CHORI CHORI [CAMRip]

Moving Image Installation. 26min 29 sec. 2023.

Chori Chori [CAMRip] is a bootleg Bollywood film, set in the temporal slippage between the future and past.

Interconnected fragments of stories/histories bleed into one another, in the form of audio samples, frame-by-frame animations, and WhatsApp voice memo narrations.

The film plays with Bollywood tropes of unrequited love, and is filmed to appear like an illicit screening of a pirated movie that has evaded censorship. In India, there is a peculiar relationship between audience and media, which turns spectatorship into a paranoid, anxious act, constantly looking for answers beyond time.

Slipping between a love story and a protest, this film is an attempt at finding community within the low-res artefacts of erased memories.

Made with the help of my friends Sharan Sanil, Nitin Gupta, Tanvi Kanchan and Kabeer Khan.

An excerpt of the film was screened at the Piccadilly Lights screen in London, along with screenings in Berlin and Milan.

Other screenings: SET Film Festival, Peckham & ‘PRINT PRINT PRINT’ at Lux Moving Image, and Goldsmiths MFA Degree Show.
